Did you know that Älmhult has a well-established judo club with a rich history? Founded in 1975, the club originally started as part of IKEA’s internal judo division and later became an independent sports club due to high demand.

Training & Atmosphere

The club has its own dedicated dojo located in the basement of Haganässkolan, where training sessions are held. Judo here is open to everyone – young, old, beginners, and experienced athletes alike! Members range from those competing at a high level to those who simply want to practice for fitness and fun.

Since the club has members from diverse backgrounds, the coaches make sure that everyone understands the techniques, often using demonstrations and explanations to bridge any language gaps.

Respect & Hygiene

Judo is not just about strength – respect and discipline are key. In the dojo, members must:
✔ Keep feet clean
✔ Trim fingernails and toenails for safety
✔ Always wear a clean judogi (judo uniform)

A Club Run by Volunteers

The club is community-driven, with both coaches and board members working on a volunteer basis. Parents and members support each other, creating a friendly and welcoming environment.

The club’s head coaches, Elisabeth Haider and Jimmy Petersson, are highly qualified and follow the official Swedish Judo training standards.

A Popular Club in Älmhult

Judo is not just a great way to stay fit – many members are drawn to the sport’s core values, such as respect, perseverance, and self-discipline. If you’re looking for a great way to train both body and mind, this club is a fantastic choice!
