When I first moved to Älmhult, I thought there wouldn’t be much to do during the summer. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how many activities, beautiful nature spots, and community events are available. Whether you are visiting Älmhult for a few days or living here with your family, here are some places worth exploring this summer.
1. Visit IKEA Museum
Älmhult is the birthplace of IKEA, so a visit to the IKEA Museum is a must.
You can learn about IKEA’s history, explore interactive exhibitions, discover how products are developed, and gain insight into the company’s sustainability efforts. There are also exclusive souvenirs available in the museum shop.
Don’t miss the restaurant and café area, which offers a pleasant place to enjoy lunch or a traditional Swedish fika.

2. Explore Bökhultet Nature Reserve and First Camp
Bökhultet is one of the most popular outdoor areas in Älmhult.
Nearby, First Camp offers activities such as canoe rental and mini golf.
You can also enjoy fishing, cycling, swimming, beach volleyball, playgrounds, and barbecue areas.
It is a perfect destination for a full day outdoors with family or friends.
3. Visit Möckelsnäs
Möckelsnäs is one of the most beautiful places around Älmhult. Located about 10 minutes north of Älmhult, Möckelsnäs is one of the most beautiful places in the region.
Visit Destination Möckelsnäs for its café and garden, or enjoy the views across Lake Möckeln from Möckelsnäs Herrgård. The area also offers hiking trails through forests and along the lakeshore.
Various events are organised here throughout the year, so it is worth checking the calendar before your visit.
4. Discover Local Second-Hand Shops
Second-hand shopping is very popular in Sweden, and Älmhult has several excellent options.

5. Visit Älmhult Library

2026, the municipality has created a special Summer Square in the town centre.
Visitors can enjoy outdoor games and an exhibition called “Älmhultare”, featuring local people who contribute to the community in different ways.
It is a pleasant place to spend some time while exploring the town centre.
8. Visit Linnés Råshult
Linnés Råshult is the birthplace of the famous Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus and Sweden’s tenth cultural reserve.
Here you can explore historic buildings, traditional farming methods, gardens, and walking trails. There is also a cosy café where you can take a break.
Check the event calendar before visiting. If you are lucky, you may even meet someone portraying Carl Linnaeus himself.
9. Explore Hallaryd Hembygdsmuseum
This small local museum offers a glimpse into traditional Swedish rural life.
You can see historical tools, buildings, and everyday objects that were used by previous generations. The museum is mainly open during the summer season, making it a great summer excursion.

10. Enjoy Parks and Swimming Areas Around Älmhult
The Älmhult area offers many parks, lakes, and swimming spots.
Some locations include barbecue facilities, making them perfect for a summer picnic. On sunny days, many local families spend the afternoon swimming, relaxing, and enjoying the outdoors.
Please note that Haganäsbadet, Älmhult’s indoor swimming pool, is closed from June to mid-August during the summer.

If you spend time in forests or tall grass, remember to check for ticks afterwards. It is a good idea to shower and change clothes when you return home.
